an exceptional evening of science, technology and your-kind-of-people (the blog)

january’s sameAs – have you contributed yet?

As many of you may know, last October Matt and I started a new get together in London called “sameAs” – a monthly event that aims to bring together the broader community around interesting topics for a night filled with pint-fueled conversation. The nights are organised around a topic or theme, bringing folks together to discuss science, technology, design and everything in between. And as of today, we now have a blog.

This January, sameAs goes virtual, and we want you to be a part of it.

We’re turning the mic around and calling on our sameAs friends new and old to help us make this month’s event global, interactive and user-contribution based. We wanted to change up the format for the month, in a way that allows for our friends outside of the UK to join us.

So for this month, we’ll be trying something new, and switching it up a bit from our in-person, London-based meetups. We’ll be posing a question to the broader community, soliciting responses in a number of different formats (video, text, images). I (and a special Matt stand-in) even took a swing at an intro video. Not Emmy award-winning, but I tried 😉

All are welcome to join. Simply submit a short video, 140 characters of text or even an image (for the visually-minded) with your answer to the following question:

“What are you passionate about?”

We want to hear from you, to learn more about what your interests are in your own words, why you do what you do, and what stories there may be behind them. Be it a side project (like sameAs for us, or cooking, music), open government or disease research – we all have some thing that gets us excited, inspired, involved.

Email us your passion, or just tag a photo, post or tweet with #passion (and #sameas), and we’ll share the best at the end of the month.

We’ll be back in February with another London pub-based event. In the meantime, we hope to hear from you.

For more information, visit or email us. And do tell your friends around the world and help us make this truly global.
